Let me get this straight…

It’s okay for kids to see suicide.

It’s okay for kids to see murder.

It’s okay for kids to see a woman with combustion powers blow her fucking head off…

But we still have yet to see a gay character in the Avatar universe. I want Korrasami, and a lot of us do. Frankly, I have my doubts. But that doesn’t negate that this season with Korra and Asami getting closer is the most realistic relationship any one has ever had in TLoK, and I am praying to the spirits that they do something about it. Mako as a boyfriend was a joke, and it wasn’t a good message at all to impressionable youngsters. They made up for it in this season, and I hope they do something more with it next season. They need to at least continue a strong female bond in some way.

This is character development. This is the start of something more than good looks and a forced romance. This is progress. Don’t let us down Bryke. For the love of God, don’t.

[Credit for Korrasami screencaps to ohmykorra & whomever captured the used ones above.]

I’d say it’s better praying to the writers than Bryke because Bryke will never ever do this we straight-up wouldn’t even have what we got this season if they were still writing every episode.

The irony of Korra not being on the air is that there’s probably a little more flexibility in what they could get away with (though since Nick still owns it and it’s on their website I’m really not sure) but I think even if it ended on a deliberately ambiguous note with a post-series aside that would be *something* even if that’s kind of the easy way out

lmao i almost forgot what babies konietzko and dimartino are and it’s hilarious because???? book 3 was so good and many of books 1 and 2’s problems were either addressed or rectified and, for a blissful moment, i thought “maybe they learned after all” but no not really

because konietzko still…

Their snide comment about “lol aang wasn’t so great he went crazy over a dumb bison!” left me completely speechless like that is the kind of ‘assessment’ I’d expect from a casual viewer coming in without any context not you know THE CREATORS OF THE FUCKING SHOW

"Fifteen years ago, you said you didn’t want this," Kya says as she pushes herself up on her elbows. She’s still so sore, even though the bruises have faded. "What’s changed?"
Lin’s brows furrow and she cannot quite look at Kya. “You almost died. I almost died. Korra…I don’t know if Korra will ever recover. I’ve spent a long time being alone because I thought it was safer that way, but if you had died…it would have hurt all the same.”
"Who says I still want you?"
Lin flinches. “Kya, please.”
"I need to know that you’re in this."
Lin nods. “I am. I love you.”
"All right."

Like all living things, humans are bioluminescent (meaning we glow) – We glow brightest during the afternoon. - weird, interesting & funny facts

what

i’ve been staring at this for like 5 minutes. so.. what. i don’t think people glow. but this is telling me that we actually emit visible light.. especially in the afternoon?? am i reading this right or what

"all living things" plants. when do the plants glow

science side of tumblr pls

I’m not from the science side of tumblr, but here’s the answer anyways:
Basically, all living things are bioluminescent because every living thing has chemical reactions occurring in their cells. The energy created from these chemical reactions physically manifests as light, thus… all living things naturally glow.
However, this glow cannot be seen by the human eye. In fact, the only way they’ve ever captured this light is through special cameras. Using these ultra special cameras, they’ve imaged subjects’ bodies over 24 hour periods. It has been found out that humans emit the most of this glow during the afternoon (about 4 PM), it is the weakest in the morning (about 10 AM), and the brightest light is emitted from the cheeks, neck, and forehead.
The light is about a thousand times weaker than what humans can perceive.
Basically, it’s a side effect of metabolic reactions. It’s been suspected that humans are bioluminescent for years, but they weren’t able to confirm it until recently thanks to technology and a man named Masaki Kobayashi from the Tohoku Institute of Technology.

i drew a bunch of elves of color!!

This post reminds me of something that happened a few years back.

I once served as art director for a project where the illustration spec called for characters of a variety of races (in the real-world sense, not the Dungeons & Dragons sense - though the latter was involved as well).

We had one particular artist, tasked with drawing a series of elves, who didn’t quite seem to get what that meant. Their output was basically “white elf”, “another white elf”, “white elf with a tan”, “white elf looking a bit pale”, “yet another white elf”, etc.

When this was pointed out, they were like “oh, yeah, now I get it - I’ll totally fix that with my next piece”.

They proceeded to turn in a picture of a blue elf.

In the end, we had to provide specific quotas for specific levels of racial representation in order to get the point across. It all worked out in the end, but it’s stuck with me ever since that this artist examined the original spec, looked at our feedback, and came to the conclusion a blue elf was more plausible than a black one.

In conclusion: this is awesome.

Read that last paragraph as many times as you need to.
